SUMMARY:The Skirmish Jonesboro Gravel Ride
DESCRIPTION:The Skirmish Jonesboro Gravel Ride\nA Delta Gravel Festival in Jonesboro\, Arkansas. \nThe Skirmish is more than just a cycling event\, it’s a celebration of the rugged beauty\, rich culture\, and tight-knit community of the Delta region. Whether you’re a seasoned rider or new to gravel cycling\, this festival offers something for everyone. The festival was created to embrace all aspects of gravel cycling with one main feature not found in the majority of gravel events; the tale of 2 rides. Riders will first traverse the rolling hills of Crowley’s Ridge\, similar to those found on the Ouachita and Ozark Mountain Regions.  Crowley’s Ridge is a 200-mile long ridge that was formed by wind\, water\, and ice over millions of years. It’s believed to have been an island between the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers that was isolated after the rivers changed course. \nAfter tackling Crowley’s Ridge\, riders will then experience the vast farmlands of the Delta (which supplies the nation with a bounty of food and feed to sustain our republic) during the final two thirds of the ride.  Riders will be treated to the wide-open flat farm roads of the region\, separated only by endless fields of crops\, to bring you home. Late May\, early June should see a tailwind blowing from the southwest to guide you home to the finish and a post-ride celebration in the historic downtown of Jonesboro\, Arkansas. \nWhy “The Skirmish”?\nThe word “skirmish” is defined as “Any brisk conflict or encounter\,” and we’re certain that every rider will be fully focused on being brisk as they attack Crowley’s Ridge and enjoy encountering amazing gravel and fellow cyclists. In our opinion skirmish is also a cool and under-used word these days. There is also an historical reference to a Civil War engagement on the grounds of the Craighead County Courthouse in 1862 which has become known as the “Jonesboro Skirmish”. You can learn more about this at an historical marker near the starting line of the 2025 Skirmish. \nOverall Event Schedule: \n\nThursday – Group rides\nFriday – Group rides\, vendor expo\, athlete meeting\, welcome party and free live music for everyone.\nSaturday –\n\nthe main event with four ride distances and a post-ride celebration.\nFriends and family will have plenty to do while their riders are out on course with kids and family activities at the finish line area. Saturday night will be a great time to explore what Jonesboro has to offer.\n\n\nSunday – a day to “relax” with a short ride on offer and then the final scheduled events of the festival. Participants and their traveling companions will be treated to a video and photo collage from the weekend. This visual wrap up will be immediately followed with an awards and prize giveaway ceremony to tie a bow on a great weekend of an all-things gravel experience.\n\nFull Event Details – https://skirmishjonesboro.com/ \nWebsite \nRegister

SUMMARY:Alphas for Autism 5K
DESCRIPTION:Alphas and ATLAS for Autism 5K\nArkansas State University\nIn celebration of World Autism Acceptance Month\, formerly known as Autism Awareness Month\, Arkansas State University’s (A-State) Theta Upsilon chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha\, Inc. fraternity\, in conjunction with the A-State A.T.L.A.S. (Autonomy through Leadership\, Advocacy and Service) Transition Program will host its second “Alphas & A.T.L.A.S. 5K Run & Walk for Autism” beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday\, April 11. The race will begin and end on the Heritage Plaza Lawn of the Carl R. Reng Student Union in the center of the beautiful A-State campus.\n\nRunners\, walkers\, ghost run/walkers\, or virtual run/walkers can register ahead of time here\, for a $25 sign up. Participants can also register the day of the event between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. for $35. Those who wish to sponsor the event or donate monetarily can do so at the same link.\n\nVendors will be on location to either increase autism awareness or promote their businesses. Leashed dogs are also welcome at the event.\n\nThis year there will also be a Greek Life competition. The sorority or fraternity who gets the most people to sign up for the 5K and register that they are running\, walking or ghost walking for their sorority or fraternity will win a trophy and social media recognition at the event. To sign up for your fraternity\, sorority\, or favorite Greek organization\, you simply fill out which organization you would like to support in the participant details portion of the registration form.\n\nAutism Acceptance Month is an opportunity for everyone to come together and raise awareness\, foster acceptance\, and create a society where people with autism are supported\, understood\, and empowered. The month is meant to highlight the issues affecting people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families\, educate the public on support services\, and celebrate people with ASD.\n\nASD is a neurodevelopmental disability that affects how the brain develops. For many years\, autism was misunderstood\, and individuals with autism faced discrimination in schools\, workplaces\, and communities. This month is the perfect time for us to not only raise awareness about autism but\, more importantly\, to promote inclusivity\, according to transitionabilities.com.\n\nAccording to the CDC\, one in 36 children in the United States had been identified as having ASD as of April 2023.\n\nThe 5K run/walk\, which began in 2025\, was the brainchild of A-State A.T.L.A.S. Transition Program student and Alpha Phi Alpha\, Inc. fraternity brother Kelby Mack. Kelby’s dream is to help other students in A.T.L.A.S. to be as successful as he has been\, while also trying to offset some of the costs associated with accomplishing the goals and aspirations of each individual student.\n\nThe A.T.L.A.S. Transition Program is a program on the A-State campus that provides students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or autism the full college experience while also providing necessary support such as financial literacy\, independent living\, mentoring\, tutoring\, and making accessible the necessary accommodations each student needs based on their individual goals and aspirations.\n\nThe Alpha Phi Alpha Theta Upsilon chapter at A-State was established on May 19\, 1973\, by a group of students coined the “Tenacious Ten\,” and the fraternity’s first supervisor was Dr. Herman Strickland. The Alpha’s motto\, “First of all\, Servants of all\, We shall transcend all\,” embodies their history as the first intercollegiate fraternity founded by African American men. Their mission is to provide service to their communities\, and their areas of focus are manly deeds\, scholarship\, and love for all. A-State’s Alpha Phi Alpha\, Inc.  Theta Upsilon chapter is currently led by President Matthew McMullen.\n\nThe Theta Upsilon chapter is part of the National Pan-Hellenic Council. The National Pan-Hellenic Council is a collaborative umbrella council composed of historically African American fraternities and sororities\, commonly called the Divine Nine.\n\n“The 5K is important to us because it represents more than a race. It represents brotherhood\, compassion\, and service. One of our closest friends\, Kelby Mack\, is also our frat brother\, and he is on the autism spectrum. Walking alongside him has shown us the importance of understanding\, patience\, and advocacy\,” said Alpha Phi Alpha. Inc. President Matthew McMullen. “As members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity\, Inc.\, we are called to uplift our communities\, and supporting this cause reflects our commitment to standing with our brothers and sisters in every walk of life.”\n\nFor more information\, please contact the RESTORE Hub at A-State’s Marketing and Public Relations Officer Jessica Rainwater at (870) 972-3911 or jrainwater@AState.edu.\n\nRegistration

SUMMARY:Village Creek 10K * 25K Trail Ru n
DESCRIPTION:Village Creek the Legend! Lace ‘em up tight! Like we always say\, “Mud\, Sweat\, and Tears!” That’s what you will find here at Village Creek State Park. The 31st and 2nd largest in Arkansas. Located just 6 miles south of Wynne\, Village Creek State Park encompasses nearly 7\,000 acres. We have an amazing multi-use trail system that is virtually untouched by the running community most of the year. Equestrian\, Mountain Bike\, and Hiking Trails combine to form a little over 26 miles of manicured sweetness atop the geologic anomaly know as Crowley’s Ridge. \nOur race features a multitude of ups and downs\, both physically and emotionally! Your day will consist of creeks\, mud\, leaves\, sticks\, steep ridgelines\, and our infamous rolling pipeline. All the while a tub of buttercream icing and warm homemade cinnamon rolls wait for you at the finish. \nThe start/finish sits at the edge of our lower campground and boasts some of the most pristine bath houses of any state park! You can camp so close to the start line that all ya gotta do is roll over toot\, tinkle\, brush\, and run! If cabins are more your thing\, no fear! Village Creek has a number of 5 star cabins available just up the hill towards Lake Dunn. \nThe 25k has a 6 hour time limit. You have approximately 3hr and 15min to make it to our bib check at the 25k turn around. If you have not checked out of the turn around by the 3:15 mark chances are you aren’t gonna get a cinnamon roll….I kid\, I kid! You just won’t get a hot one! \nThe 25K is an out and back route starting at the bicycle entrance to the following markers 13\,14\,15\,16\,17\,18\, north past 19 towards 20 where you will reach the turnaround. Aid stations will be at approximate half way points for both races. This is a cup free race! Bring your own bottles!
